This deep fried traditional snack is made from a blend of rice flour and kithul treacle and is also known as oil cake among non natives. This variant of kavum turns on a dark reddish hue when fried while its unique flavour comes from the addition of salt and cardamom spice.

The name of the sweet “konda kavum” comes due to its resemblance of a tied up hair bun while the maestros of the kitchen shape it by hand and an eekle stick that is used for the shaping process.
