Aththa Muththa Kolam Mask
Aththa Muththa Kolam Mask
Aththa Muththa kolama (comedy of grandmother and grandfather). In the Aththa Kolam (grand mother comedy) the mask of an old woman is worn and in theMuththa Kolama (grand father comedy) the mask of an old man is worn. While the mask is like an old face, there is hardly any other Kolama(comedy) that can evoke so much amusement.
Through this Kolama (comedy) some of the elderly people in rural Sinhalese society who do not lead a disciplined life, have been imitated and mocked at, as can be guessed. Here the Aththa and Muththa characters depicted ate aged grandmothers and grandfathers.
Whilst in the midst of the performance they embrace one another. They joke and poke fun at another. This causes much amusement and laughter amongst the audience.
