Gotukola (වැල් ගොටුකොළ) Medicinal Plants

Since ancient times, gotukola has been considered a popular leafy vegetable or herb among Sri Lankans. It is blessed with an abundance of medicinal values and is rich in iron. Lakpura offers you the gotukola plant which is the vine type with smaller leaves which is also referred to as ʺwel gotukolaʺ. The plant is also known as Indian pennywort.

It’s a native plant that can be grown all over the island in clusters while the whole plant can be used for various purposes. Water the plant regularly but avoid water being clogged. Weeds should be controlled around the plant to maintain the quality of the leaves. Known as the herb of longevity, gotukola has the potential to boost cognitive function, may help in treating Alzheimer’s disease and it may also have a detox effect on the liver and kidney.
