2 Nights in Dambulla

With much to explore and experience, your 6 day tour in Sri Lanka will start off with 2 days in Dambulla while en route you will be visiting the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage which is home to young elephants displaced from their natural living conditions. Reveling in the moment, you will be guided to a few historical landmarks which includes the Dambulla Cave Temple which has a cave network and where you can explore a few with hundreds of figurines and murals of Lord Buddha and other deities. Heading towards Polonnaruwa, you can breathe in the air of ancient kings while walking through olden ruins of a historical capital. Finally, to end your stay in Dambulla, you will be directed to the Minneriya National Park where you will experience and witness the magnificent Sri Lankan elephants. A great gathering happens during the dry season where over hundreds of elephants come together.

Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage

Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is the home for young Elephants who have been displaced or lost from their natural habitat, located at Pinnawala village in Sabaragamuwa province of Sri Lanka. Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage is the best place for an up close and personal experience with the world’s largest land mammals! Today with 70 elephants herein, Pinnawela has become the home to the largest captive group of elephants in the world.

Dambulla Cave Temple

Enter the historic caves of the Golden Temple of Dambulla, dating back to the 1st century BC. View the ancient murals depicting the life story of Lord Gautama Buddha. Look at the hundreds of figurines of Buddha and other deities scattered throughout the five main caves. Visit the Cave of the Divine King, Cave of the Great King and the Great New Monastery. See the giant golden Buddha Statue just a little distance outside the cave complex.

The Ancient Kingdom of Polonnaruwa

Which was the second major capital of Sri Lanka. Walk through the ruins of the city that flourished between the 10th to the 13th century AD. View important monuments such as Gal Vihara, Vatadage, the lotus bath, Lankathilaka Temple and the statue of King Parakramabahu whose reign was considered the golden age of Polonnaruwa. Get to know more about Sri Lanka’s ancient history.

Minneriya National Park

This safari takes you on a ride through the Minneriya National Park. Enjoy the sight of over 150 elephants congregating in one place during the famous Great Elephant Gathering, which happens in the dry season between May to October. In addition to elephants, get a chance to also see many mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians in the scrublands, forests and other areas.

02 Nights in Kandy

Heading towards Kandy, the hill capital of Sri Lanka, you will first make a stop at the Sigiriya Rock Fortress where you can challenge yourself to climb atop and walk among the palace ruins. Half way to the top you will see beautiful murals and terraced gardens that were all part of excellent engineering skills of ancient Sri Lankan people. You can also experience the world from a village farmer’s perspective with a heartwarming village tour and learn traditional cooking basics while afterwards enjoying a home cooked lunch. You will then visit a spice and herb garden in Matale where you will be educated about an array of Sri Lankan spices as well as Ayurvedic medicine. Kandy is a bustling hub that is home to many historical and culturally relevant landmarks while you will be able to learn and explore some of these spots including a few local markets and architectural marvels.

Sigiriya Rock Fortress

The 5th century AD rock fortress Sigiriya, once ruled by the Sri Lankan King Kashyapa, is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Sri Lanka’s most historical landmarks. Walk through the entrance framed by the paws of a lion that is quite appropriate for its name, ‘The Lion Rock’. View the beautiful unfading murals that brought Sigiriya its fame. Climb the steep staircase to see the terraced gardens and still-working cisterns, that are a mind blowing example of ancient Sri Lankan hydraulic engineering. Walk through the tunnels leading to the palace as you get a feel for times long past.

Hiriwadunna Village Tour

Get a chance to go on an oxen cart ride, and experience the world from the view of a village farmer. Have a relaxing catamaran safari through a calm lake. Walk through the golden fields ripe with their harvest of paddy. Watch an enjoyable traditional cooking demonstration that teaches you the basics of Sri Lankan cuisine. Matale Spice Tour

Kandy

Kandy was the last capital of the Sinhala Kings, and is the islands cultural centre. It was Sri Lanka’s capital until the British took control in 1815 and due to its significant association with Buddhism; UNESCO has now made the Sacred City of Kandy a UNESCO World Heritage site. The ancient kingdom of Kandy is also home to Edwardian buildings, a king-made lake, a nature reserve and exciting shops. As the second largest city of the island and the capital of the Central Province, Kandy has grown from being a medieval kingdom to a friendly, busy city set in forested hills and surrounded by tea plantations and close to the Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya. Take a tour around this bustling city including stops at the local markets and architectural marvels.

1 Night in Colombo

Your stay in Colombo will allow you to experience the Commercial Hub in your own pace. You will be guided around a few landmarks including the Old Parliament and the Lighthouse while you can visit designer boutique shops, stores and high end malls to enjoy some last minute shopping before checking out from your hotel.
